What is Multimedia?

Multimedia is a bunch of different types of media combined to create one big thing/form of media. Multimedia can be used when dealing with artwork, computers, or other things. You can combine text, pictures, and other graphics to make a collage or presentation that you can then share with others. It helps make projects and presentations more interesting and helps the listeners to engage in them while they are being shown. Multimedia can be used when dealing with presentations using cool effects.

DTP Assignment Review

Blog post - 5 sentences on each questions - What was your favorite DTP assignment (flyer, can label, menu, magazine cover, event ticket) and why?  What was your least favorite DTP assignment and why?

My favorite DTP assignment was the event ticket. This assignment was my favorite because it was very simple but also a lot of fun to create. You got to pick your favorite artist, and design a ticket to their show. I chose to do a Keith Urban ticket because I went to one of his concerts last summer. I tried to make the event ticket as realist as possible by adding the date, seat number/location, and pictures of the artist. This assignment was my favorite because I enjoyed it and it allowed me to be creative.

My least favorite DTP assignment to create was the menu. This assignment was my least favorite because it took a lot of time to create and it was very repetitive and boring. I am not very creative when it comes to making up menu items or designing my own restaurant, so I did not enjoy this assignment at all. It was also very difficult to make it look professional. Overall, the menu was my least favorite DTP assignment because it was boring.

5 Desktop Principles

Blog Post - Name 5 desktop principles, elements or vocabulary terms that you have used in creating the can label and/or the special event ticket and EXPLAIN how you used them.

In my can label, one desktop principle I used was a watermark. I used a picture of two girls sliding down a water slide, and formatted it so that it was a watermark. I did this because it provided a fun background without drawing attention from the important information. The second desktop principle I used in my can label was shadow effect. I used this principle in the questions/comments box because it added a cool effect and drew the readers eye to the contact information. The third desktop principle I used in my can label was reverse text. I used this principle in the box advertising the product to make it stand out. I used a blue background with white text because the rest of my label contains white backgrounds with blue text, so I wanted to change things up a little. The fourth desktop principle I used was rotated item. I used this principle in my concert ticket when adding the bar code. I had to rotate it in order to correctly fit onto the ticket sideways. The last desktop principle I used in my concert ticket was whitespace. I used this in several locations throughout my ticket in order for it to look less crowded and everything look more evenly spaced.

Purple Blog Entry

1.      What shape represents the primary color PURPLE? OVAL
2.      What is the complementary color of PURPLE? (best friend) YELLOW
3.      List 2 things PURPLE was “hired” to represent. MOOD AND NOBILITY
4.      What are 3 positive character traits? FANTASTIC, LEADER, AND SOPHISTICATED
5.      What are 3 negative character traits? LONELY, SAD, DESPERATE
6.      List one additional fact about the color PURPLE (“Around the World”) COLOR OF LENT IN CATHOLICISM

Reflection
The color purple stands for many things, a few that I knew about before watching this movie. I remember learning in art class and maybe history that purple was the color of royalty, which explains why it can be described as vain and luxurious as well as royal. One thing that surprised me was that purple stood for feminine and fragrant. I always thought of pink as the "feminine" color because it was always considered more girly. But it's interesting to know that purple actually stands for feminine. It also surprised me that purple stood for solemn because I always thought of purple as a more happy color. Some other traits that purple stand for are intelligent, artistic, fantastic, aloof, and melancholic.

Family Rules Blog Post

Blog Post:  Most families set rules for their children, especially regarding behavior and responsibility.  Do you long to stay out later, go out more, or dress any way you like?  Which rules do you find particularly annoying? Write about rules that you consider unfair and why?  Which rules do you find that are fair and why?

One rule that I find particularly annoying is that my parents won't let me hang out with my friends during the week because it is a "school night". Even though I finish all of my homework and studying by five pm on most days, they most of the time won't let me hang out with my friends after that. One rule that I find really unfair is that I have to clean my room before I have any friends over. When I go to my friends houses, their houses are always super dirty so I think it's unfair that I have to clean my room while other people don't. One rule that I find fair is having a curfew. I think having a curfew is fair because if something bad did happen to you, your parents would know you needed help if you didn't get home before your curfew. It also helps them know that you are safe, and having a peace of mind while they sleep.

2.      What is the complementary color of RED? (best friend) GREEN
3.      List 2 things RED was “hired” to represent. BATTLE AND AGGRESSION
4.      What are 3 positive character traits? ALERT, DRAMATIC, AND ENERGETIC

6.      List one additional fact about the color RED (“Around the World”) CHRISTIANS USE RED FOR CHRISTMAS

Reflection
The color red can mean and stand for a lot more things than just being angry. Although most of its traits are on the mad side, such as commanding, dynamic, and rebellious; there are some other traits that make the color a little less scary. Red also stands for hot and romantic. One thing that surprised me is that red also stood for joyful and fun. Like I said, most people think of red as a mean, angry color, but it can also be happy too. Some other traits that red can stand for are vital, alert, complementary, and visible. I learned a lot about red from this video that I had never known or heard of before.

Blue Blog Entry

1.      What shape represents the primary color BLUE? CIRCLE
2.      What is the complementary color of BLUE? (best friend) ORANGE
3.      List 2 things BLUE was “hired” to represent. FLEXIBILITY AND HOPE
4.      What are 3 positive character traits? FRESH, PEACEFUL, AND FAITHFUL
5.      What are 3 negative character traits? SAD, DULL, AND LONELY
6.      List one additional fact about the color BLUE (“Around the World”) IN INDIA, THE COLOR BLUE STANDS FOR MERCY

Reflection
The color blue represents many things as well as many traits. This color is "lonely" and "deep" which are the traits I agree with mainly because I connect the color blue to being sad. Blue is also "cold" and "clean" which makes me think about cleaning products such as Windex that are the color blue. Two traits that surprised me was "protective" and "peaceful" because they don't really seem like they could go under the same color. One thing from the movie that I found very interesting was that blue stood for educated and formal. I always thought those two things would be represented by a different color, such as white or black. Overall, I learned a lot from this movie.

Super Bowl Commercials Blog Entry

Blog Entry - Which super bowl commercial was your favorite and why?  Which was your least favorite and why?

My favorite super bowl commercial was the one by Microsoft called "Empowering". It was my favorite commercial because it really made some good points about why technology was so important and helpful to the world today. It also made me a little emotional because it showed a little boy with no legs getting to walk again because of technology. It also showed a soldier video chatting and getting to see his son born, as well as a deaf woman getting her hearing back. All of these examples made a really good point to the overall message of the commercial which is that technology helps a lot of people and really impacts the world today in a very positive way.

My least favorite super bowl commercial was the "Wings" commercial by Volkswagen. I thought this commercial was terrible because it made absolutely no sense. A man tell his daughter that every time a Volkswagen hits 100,000 miles, a German scientist gets his wings. First of all, that makes no sense and is extremely stupid. Than throughout the rest of the commercial, it shows scientists randomly growing wings. I think this commercial was bad because it not only confused me, but I didn't find it funny or amusing at all.

Reflection
The color orange represents many things and many traits. This color is "abundant" and "flavorful" which reminds me of the fruit oranges. Orange is also helpful and inspiring like a good role model. It is also burning and cozy which reminds me of a hot campfire burning bright orange. I also learned from the orange movie that it is festive, active, and exciting which makes this color more interesting in my opinion. One thing from the movie that surprised me was that orange stood for helpful, I also thought that would have been another color. Learning about the color orange was very interesting to me.

Technology Blog Post

Technology has led to the discovery of vaccines and medical treatments.  It has brought computers and televisions into people’s homes, and it has provided us with electricity, the internet, phones, cars, planes and much more.  But an argument can be made that technology has largely worsened the quality of our lives, polluting the air, making our lives needlessly stressful, and dampening our enthusiasm for books.
If you had to give up one technological advantage that you use all the time, what would it be? Do you think you would be better off without it? Why?

Although technology has its advantages, there also some bad things about it as well. If I had to give up one technological advantage that I use all the time, it would probably be television. Even though I enjoy watching television after school and on the weekends, I will admit it does distract me from things that are more important. Instead of watching television, I could be doing my homework, exercising, or spending time with my friends or family. Television is more of a distraction to me than it is an advantage. I feel like it holds me back and doesn't let me try and experience new things. Instead, I am stuck staring at a screen. I do think that I would be better off without television because it would give me more free time to do better in school and learn new things. Without the distraction of television, I could be a better person. Even though I would miss it, I do think I would be better off without television.
